Controversy Erupts: John Dolmayan Hints at System of a Down Stalemate: ‘Eventually You Stop Being Hungry'”

Will System of a Down ever create a new album? This question has been plaguing the band’s fans for two decades now, and there seems to be no true answer. The band members have either hinted at the possibility or denied it, and fans were confused by the contrasting statements.

Speaking to Rock & Pop FM 95.9, drummer John Dolmayan gave his thoughts on this matter. He likened SOAD albums and fan craving for a new one to food and hunger, saying (via Blabbermouth):

“I would say that if you are satisfied with what you have, then you don’t need more. It’s like if you go to dinner and you just keep eating, eventually, you’re not gonna be hungry anymore. But if you know what you wanna eat and you look forward to that and you enjoy it, then you won’t be hungry.”

“Now if System of a Down makes more music, and that’s not impossible, although, after 25 years, it’s unlikely. I would say that don’t expect it, but if it happens, it’ll be a nice surprise for all of us.”

Dolmayan recently spoke about the problems in the band that, as he pointed out, mostly stemmed from disagreements with vocalist Serj Tankian. He noted that Tankian had a penchant for getting into fiery political diatribes on stage, which he was personally fine with, but everyone in the band disliked how everything else they wrote about was being pushed to the side:

“Now, I personally love it. The more crazy he got and into it…I believe anything that’s passionately displayed is worth listening to, even if I completely disagree with it. If you’re really passionate about it, I want to know what you think. So I like that part of it, but the rest of the band and I too felt like it was just too much of our focus.”
