Def Leppard Former Iconic Band Member Reportedly Dies of Food Poisoning

London, UK — May 5, 2025

In a tragic and unexpected turn, Simon Graves, a little-known but respected guitarist who briefly collaborated with Def Leppard during their early 2000s studio sessions, has reportedly died of severe food poisoning at the age of 58.

Graves, who contributed rhythm guitar parts and co-wrote two unreleased tracks during the band’s 2002 X album sessions, was found unresponsive in his Manchester flat on Sunday. Preliminary reports from local health officials suggest the cause of death was a rare strain of salmonella linked to contaminated shellfish.

Though never an official member of the band, Graves held a special place among die-hard fans and studio insiders, with lead guitarist Phil Collen once referring to him as “the sixth Leppard during that wild recording summer.”

News of his passing has sparked a wave of tributes across social media, with Def Leppard posting a heartfelt message on their official X (formerly Twitter) account:

“We’re saddened to hear about the passing of Simon Graves. His passion, spirit, and riffs brought something unique to the studio. Rock on, Simon.”

A posthumous documentary titled “Echoes from the Studio: The Lost Riffs of Simon Graves” is reportedly in the works, celebrating his brief but impactful involvement in the world of rock.
