Novak Djokovic describes how his wife and kids added additional meaning to a certain Grand Slam victory.

Novak Djokovic recently reflected on the emotional significance of winning his record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title at the 2023 French Open. In an interview with his racket sponsor, Head, he shared how the presence of his wife, Jelena, and their children, Stefan and Tara, made the victory even more special. Djokovic described the moment of winning the final against Casper Ruud as one of the most beautiful of his career. After hitting the final forehand, which secured his historic win, he fell to the ground, overwhelmed with emotion as his family celebrated with him.

Despite entering the 2023 French Open with less-than-ideal results in the clay season, Djokovic remained confident in his ability to perform well in Paris, where he has always played some of his best tennis. His 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5 victory in the final marked his record 23rd Major title, surpassing Rafael Nadal’s previous record of 22 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic had earlier equaled Nadal’s record by winning the 2023 Australian Open.

In addition to his French Open triumph, Djokovic made more history in 2023 by securing his 24th Major title at the US Open, tying Margaret Court’s record for the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history. He is now just one Major away from becoming the player with the most Grand Slam titles in tennis.

Earlier this year, Djokovic also won his first singles Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, a feat he described as “unique, remarkable, and unforgettable.” He again celebrated this victory with his family by his side, and it further cemented the importance of having them with him during his greatest career moments.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Djokovic will begin his campaign at the Brisbane International, with former rival Andy Murray joining his coaching team.
