NBA insider comments on the 284-pound ‘Heavy’ Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokić is having another stellar season, averaging nearly a triple-double with 30.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game. However, despite his individual success, there are concerns about his physical condition. NBA insider Chris Mannix discussed on The Bill Simmons Show that Jokić might be carrying extra weight this season, potentially impacting his performance. Sources have described him as looking “heavy,” with some suggesting he isn’t in the same shape as in past seasons. Jokić was listed at 284 pounds before the season began, but the Nuggets have not provided any updates on his weight since then.

While these concerns persist, Jokić’s on-court performance remains impressive. He recently scored 56 points and grabbed 16 rebounds against the Washington Wizards on December 7, followed by a 48-point game against the Atlanta Hawks. Jokić is also averaging over 30 points for the first time in his career.

Despite Jokić’s individual greatness, the Denver Nuggets are facing struggles this season, sitting at 14-10. Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas pointed out that the team’s struggles seem linked to a lack of cohesion, with the players looking like “fat cats” after securing big contracts. Jokić’s pursuit of triple-doubles appears to have come at the cost of team success, with the Nuggets struggling defensively. Additionally, no other player on the team is averaging over 20 points, with Michael Porter Jr. and Jamal Murray contributing 18.5 and 18.4 points per game, respectively.

The Nuggets’ inability to fully capitalize on Jokić’s greatness raises questions about the team’s chemistry and future success this season.
