Manchester United are reportedly targeting 17-year-old Greek prodigy Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos during the January transfer window. According to The Sun (via Team Talk), Kostoulas, who is out of contract this summer, has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Juventus, and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Kostoulas, regarded as one of the brightest talents in Greek football, showcased his abilities in Olympiacos’ recent goalless UEFA Europa League draw against FC Twente. Despite the stalemate, the versatile attacker earned a penalty, which was missed by teammate Ayoub El Kaabi. Scouts from United were reportedly present to observe Kostoulas in action.
The youngster has been impressive in the Super League Greece, contributing two goals and an assist in 10 appearances this season, continuing the strong form he displayed with the Under-19s last campaign. Known for his versatility, Kostoulas can operate as a winger, an attacking midfielder, or a striker.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League. Despite being 1-0 down late in the game, United captain Bruno Fernandes equalized with an 88th-minute penalty, setting the stage for Amad Diallo’s sensational match-winner two minutes later. The win lifted United to 13th place in the league standings after 16 games.
Reflecting on his pivotal penalty, Fernandes told the BBC:
“It was a big chance when still 1-0 down. I just tried to lift the ball away from Ederson. A penalty is a moment of nerves. They are a big part of games. I am ready to calm myself down in big moments.”
The Portuguese international also praised new manager Ruben Amorim, saying:
“It is a process. We know what he demands, what he wants. It doesn’t matter what happens. We stick to what we do.”
Manchester United will now shift focus to their EFL Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, December 19.
