LeBron James breaks the Kareem-Abdul Jabbar record and ascends to the top of another NBA chart.
LeBron James achieved another remarkable milestone in his illustrious career by surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most regular-season minutes played in NBA history. On Thursday, during the LA Lakers’ game against the Sacramento Kings, James logged his 57,447th minute, edging out Abdul-Jabbar, who had 57,446. James accomplished this feat in two fewer seasons than the former Lakers legend.
This record-breaking performance marks the second consecutive season that LeBron James has surpassed Abdul-Jabbar in the all-time career rankings. Last February, James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, overtaking Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing points record. In addition, James reached his 20th All-Star Game in 2023, while Abdul-Jabbar was selected 19 times.
James broke the minutes played record in the second quarter of Thursday’s game. This achievement further solidifies his place in NBA history, as he already holds the record for most career playoff minutes (11,858), with Tim Duncan (9,370) and Abdul-Jabbar (8,851) ranking second and third, respectively, in postseason minutes.
As of now, the only active player in the top 40 for career regular-season minutes is Chris Paul, with 44,050 minutes before his game against the Atlanta Hawks. Other notable active players on the all-time minutes list include Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, DeMar DeRozan, and James Harden.
James, who has missed three games this season due to a sore left foot, remains largely healthy and available for the Lakers. If he stays on track, he will continue to add to his career minutes total, potentially adding even more historical achievements to his already remarkable legacy.
