On Sunday, Ketel Marte, the center fielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, took to Instagram to reflect on his impressive postseason hitting streak. Over the years, from 2017 to 2023, Marte has compiled a remarkable 20-game postseason hit streak, putting him at the top of the list, surpassing legendary names like Derek Jeter and the late Rickey Henderson. Marte shared this achievement with his fans on Instagram, captioning a post with a simple “😃.”
Despite a strong 2024 season, where he finished with a .292 batting average, 36 home runs, and 95 RBIs, Marte’s campaign was cut short by a serious ankle injury. The injury occurred during a collision with Garrett Stubbs of the Philadelphia Phillies while Marte was covering second base. The injury sidelined him for critical games, ultimately impacting the Diamondbacks‘ chances of making the postseason. They narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, and Marte’s absence was felt dearly.
Marte had been a frontrunner for the NL MVP award before the injury, with his performance during the second half of the season helping propel the Diamondbacks’ offense to new heights. At one point, the team had the hottest offense in the league, and Marte was seen as one of the top challengers to Shohei Ohtani for the award. Ultimately, Marte finished third in the 2024 NL MVP voting, behind Francisco Lindor and Ohtani.
While the injury cut short a promising season, Marte can now focus on offseason preparation for 2025, aiming to continue his strong performance and help the Diamondbacks in their quest for postseason success next year.
