Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has praised manager Ruben Amorim for instilling a strong structure, playing style, and tactical clarity since his arrival at Old Trafford. Maguire emphasized Amorim’s winning mentality, particularly after their 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Manchester Derby on Sunday, December 15.

City took the lead in the 36th minute through Josko Gvardiol, but late goals from Bruno Fernandes (88′, penalty) and Amad Diallo (90′) secured a dramatic win for United at the Etihad Stadium. Amorim, who took over on November 11, has implemented a 3-4-3 formation and is beginning to see results, boasting four wins, two defeats, and one draw in his first seven matches.

Maguire highlighted Amorim’s impact, stating (via United in Focus):

“You can see we have a good structure, a good style of play, the way that he wants us to work. He is tactically very good. He’s proven that he’s a winner.”

Amorim, known for his success with Sporting CP, where he won two Primeira Liga titles, is looking to replicate that success with the Red Devils.

Amorim praises Maguire’s performance

Ruben Amorim was full of praise for Maguire after his solid display against Manchester City, especially in handling Erling Haaland. Amorim said (via manutd.com):

“[Harry] Maguire is perfect when you play with the three defenders. I think in the middle [he] is perfect. Then the way that the striker that they have [Erling Haaland] with the long balls, you need to be really strong, and so [he] was perfect for him.”

Maguire put in an excellent shift, winning 6/8 duels, making five interceptions, three tackles, and three clearances.

The defender is now expected to feature for Manchester United in their upcoming EFL Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, December 19, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
