Forbes Magazine: Sting Lands On A Chart That Might Surprise Even His Biggest Fans With His New Single

Sting first found fame as the leader of The Police in the ‘80s, when he and his band took over the world. For a while, they were regarded as among the biggest and most artistically interesting acts in the music industry. Then, Sting went out on his own, and he continued to prove his talent as a producer and songwriter.

In the decades since he launched his solo career, Sting has dabbled in many different styles. He’s focused on rock and pop, but he’s also released music that can be categorized as traditional pop, country, and electronic. This week in America, he collects his first hit on one of Billboard’s rap charts, as he joins two of the most respected names in that genre to land the big win.

Sting appears on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart for the first time this frame. Joined with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, the English superstar launches at No. 10 with “Another Part of Me,” which earns all three artists another smash.

“Another Part of Me” is the latest single taken from Snoop’s new album Missionary. That full-length dropped on Friday, December 13, and it features collaborations with several other well-known musicians that may shock some listeners. Artists like Tom Petty and Jelly Roll also appear on the tally, as well as hip-hop and R&B acts like Eminem and 50 Cent.

Sting lands his first appearance on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, though he has placed on other, related lists published by Billboard. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, he collected three hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ranking, including his own “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” and “We’ll Be Together,” which both spent time inside the top 40.

The Puff Daddy remix of The Police’s single “Roxanne,” which was retitled “Roxanne ‘97,” also became successful on several genre-specific charts in the U.S. The tune, which credited both Sting and The Police as separate acts, landed on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, and Hot Rap Songs lists.
Both Snoop and Dre have already collected plenty of smashes on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, which measures only the bestselling rap tracks throughout the nation. Snoop is now up to a dozen top 10s, while Dre collects his milestone tenth appearance between Nos. 1 and 10 with his latest collaboration.
