Breaking News: Southampton accept £6m Man City risk but with nothing to lose

Recently, Southampton fans have witnessed one of Manchester City’s regular masterclass. Not the one they show on the pitch but by their youth academy player sales where they utilize their promising talents to recoup massive profits, which then strengthen their transfer spending muscles.

And Divin Mubama is their latest wonderkid who is speculated to bring in a handful of millions on City’s books despite not even completing a year there. In this aspect, Southampton can be tagged as taking a leave out of City’s strategy due to the considerable investment they have poured into their age-level sides.

Now, I am not persuading them to participate in the Mubama pursuit but they must come to the conclusion that forking out seven-figure fees isn’t a short-cut to assemble future teams. Not to appear hopeless in terms of recruitment, but such has been the Juan Larios saga where positives are scarce to find.

According to a report from journalist Matteo Moretto, Larios is returning to his homeland in a bid to boost Cultural Leonesa’s second-division push. With Southampton also plying their trade outside of top-flight football, it isn’t a concern to see one of their fringe stars also do the same.

But the £6m Saints offloaded from their pockets earlier, would definitely ask questions to them. The simple reason is that regardless of how well Larios gets accustomed to starting there, the Saints won’t escape the stress of finding decent buyers for him next time around.

Talking about hindsight, then rejecting this approach couldn’t have done any favour to Southampton’s financial hopes. Finally, the Saints had virtually no transfer say on this move but let’s hope they make-up for this loss of transfer funds on other player sales.
