Despite having been told in no uncertain terms by Newcastle United that Alexander Isak is not for sale, Liverpool are refusing to go quietly.
The Reds approached Newcastle to let them know they’d be willing to put down a British transfer record fee of £120 million to secure the services of Isak this summer.
Newcastle rebuffed the approach, sticking by their stance that Isak is not for sale.
This is now expected to kick off a transfer war involving Isak and Hugo Ekitike, who Newcastle are chasing, but Liverpool sees as the ideal Isak alternative.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano is reporting via his YouTube channel that the Isak to Liverpool saga may not be done yet, with the Swede open to joining Arne Slot’s champions.
“What I’m told is also that the player didn’t close the doors to Liverpool. So the player didn’t stop Liverpool from doing that.
“The player is still in conversations with Newcastle because they want to offer him a new contract. We know that. So, Newcastle really hope to advance on that one. But the player didn’t stop Liverpool.
“The player didn’t say no to Liverpool. The player seems to be open to the move. So, it’s now in Newcastle hands. They have the opportunity to confirm their stance as they always did in the recent years because last summer was quite a similar situation with other clubs.”
Newcastle are under no pressure to sell Alexander Isak
It’s still worth remembering that Alexander Isak’s Newcastle contract runs to 2028, so the club are under no pressure to sell unless he agitates for a move, which we don’t really see happening.
Isak is ambitious and would obviously love to play for a team capable of winning the Premier League, but he doesn’t seem like the type of player who would force a move either, and if Newcastle can beat Liverpool to the signing of Hugo Ekitike, plus another couple of additions, who’s to say we won’t be title contenders ourselves?
There are still going to be plenty more twists and turns to come with this saga, some will be accurate, some will be pure fantasy, but we’ve just got to ride it out until its conclusion one way or another, and if the worst happens and Newcastle do lose Isak, we’ll survive. We always do.
