Suede Unveils Lost Album ‘Animal Lover’ After 29 Years

In a remarkable turn of events, British alternative rock band Suede has announced the release of their long-shelved album, Animal Lover, nearly three decades after its initial conception. Originally intended as the band’s debut in 1993, the album was set aside during recording sessions in favor of what became their self-titled breakthrough record.

Animal Lover was envisioned as Suede’s inaugural album, featuring early versions of tracks like “The Drowners,” “Metal Mickey,” and “Sleeping Pills.” However, as the recording process evolved, the band restructured the album, ultimately leading to the release of Suede in March 1993. This debut went on to achieve critical acclaim, topping the UK Albums Chart and winning the Mercury Music Prize.

The newly unveiled Animal Lover offers fans a glimpse into Suede’s formative years, presenting the raw and unpolished versions of songs that would later become Britpop anthems. The album includes previously unreleased tracks and alternate takes, providing a unique perspective on the band’s early creative process.

Frontman Brett Anderson expressed his enthusiasm about the release, stating, “Revisiting Animal Lover has been like opening a time capsule. It’s a snapshot of who we were before the world knew us.”
