According to reports, Manchester United received a new boost in their pursuit of a 30-year-old Atletico Madrid player.
Manchester United Eyeing Reinildo Mandava Amid Atletico Madrid’s Willingness to Sell
Manchester United have reportedly gained momentum in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s versatile left-back, Reinildo Mandava. The Mozambique international, who turns 31 next month, has become a potential transfer target for the Red Devils as Atletico are said to be open to offloading him in the upcoming January window.
Atletico Madrid’s Stand on Reinildo
Reinildo has been a dependable presence for Diego Simeone’s side since his €2 million move from Lille in January 2022, featuring in 91 matches for the La Liga giants. However, this season has seen a dip in his prominence, with Javi Galan overtaking him as the first-choice left-back. Reinildo has started just 10 of his 18 appearances across all competitions.
According to Fichajes.net, Atletico are keen to cash in on Reinildo before his contract expires next June, which could allow Manchester United to secure him at a reasonable fee.
How Reinildo Fits at Manchester United
With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia often sidelined due to injuries, Reinildo could provide much-needed depth and reliability in United’s defense. Known for his defensive resilience and versatility, he could also contribute as a backup option in central defense. While not a long-term solution, his experience could bolster the squad for the second half of the season.
Marcus Rashford Reflects on Future Amid Transfer Speculation
Separately, Marcus Rashford has opened up about his future, responding to reports that he might be sold by Manchester United. In an interview with Henry Winter (via Metro), Rashford stated:
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave, it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United.”
While affirming his commitment to professionalism, Rashford added:
“I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me.”
The 27-year-old has spent nearly nine years in Manchester United’s senior setup, contributing significantly with his performances and helping the team secure six trophies.
Rashford’s Current Form and Contract Status
Rashford, under contract until June 2028, has had a decent campaign, recording seven goals and three assists in 24 matches this season. Despite his comments, it is unclear if he is actively seeking an exit or simply addressing speculative narratives.
Manchester United’s January transfer window could bring significant changes, with both Reinildo Mandava and Marcus Rashford’s future in the spotlight.
