The acne persisted long after filming ended and carried over into her next project, Kinds of Kindness, where she portrayed four different characters. Margaret admitted that the acne she struggled with during the The Substance shoot ended up becoming a fitting aspect of one of her characters in Kinds of Kindness. She mentioned that it took about a year to recover from the physical impact of the prosthetics.
