Victor Wembanyama expresses his opinions about the new All-Star format in light of Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis’ criticism of it.

Victor Wembanyama has shared his thoughts on the NBA’s new All-Star game format, which will depart from the traditional East vs. West setup and introduce a mini-tournament with three teams of eight players, plus a fourth team made up of the winners of the Rising Stars game. The league hopes this change will bring more excitement and competitiveness to the event, which has often been criticized for lacking intensity.

Wembanyama, however, expressed his skepticism about the new format, saying, “I’m personally wondering how to put competitiveness back into the All-Star game. When I set foot on that court though, I’m gonna be competitive for sure. But I don’t think anything beats the old school East vs. West format.”

Other NBA stars have also voiced concerns. Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns criticized the change, calling it “terrible” and suggesting a return to the East-West format. Anthony Davis agreed, stating that he wasn’t fond of the change but was open to seeing how it played out.

Despite not making the 2024 All-Star Game (which was criticized for its lack of competitiveness, with the East winning 211-186), Wembanyama is a strong contender for his first All-Star selection in 2025. His recent performances have been outstanding, averaging 24.7 points, 10 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.8 blocks per game. Over his last 10 games, he has led the San Antonio Spurs with impressive stats, making him a likely selection for the game regardless of the competition.
