Football pundit Michael Owen was highly critical of Manchester United’s summer signing Noussair Mazraoui following his penalty concession in their 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on December 22. Owen labeled Mazraoui’s decision as “stupid” after he tripped Justin Kluivert inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Owen expressed frustration, emphasizing that Mazraoui’s rashness allowed Kluivert to score from the spot and put United 2-0 down in the 61st minute, with Bournemouth adding a third shortly after.

Owen’s criticism was sharp: “A little rash? A little stupid more like. What on earth are you doing? Two players are waiting for him, he’s not going to score from there and he dives in. Just stay on your feet and usher him away. It’s just a poor, poor decision.” He also voiced concerns over Manchester United’s inability to recover from setbacks, pointing to their lack of resilience, adding, “The sad thing from Manchester United these days is they go 1-0 down and you never really think they’re going to come back. They’re not a good team.”

Despite the penalty incident, Mazraoui has been one of United’s standout performers since joining from Bayern Munich in the summer. The 27-year-old right-back has provided two assists in 26 appearances and has been solid defensively, winning duels and making recoveries.
