Trans Fairy Tale Starring Karla Sofia Gascon Following Historic Golden Globes Nomination
Karla Sofia Gascón, who recently made history as the first openly trans actress nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy category for her role in Emilia Perez, has secured another prominent role. The 52-year-old actress is set to star in the upcoming Spanish film Las Malas.
Directed by Academy Award winner Armando Bo, Las Malas is an adaptation of Camila Sosa Villada’s acclaimed fairy tale novel Bad Girls. Karla will portray Aunt Encarna, a “tough but motherly leader of a group of trans sex workers.” The plot takes a dramatic turn when Aunt Encarna discovers an abandoned baby and decides to adopt him, unknowingly putting her chosen family at risk as a result of her decision.
