According to reports, Manchester City and Arsenal are monitoring the 23-year-old Belgian star in anticipation of a possible trade battle.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Maxim De Cuyper, the 23-year-old Belgian defender from Club Brugge, as they look to strengthen their defensive options. De Cuyper has been impressive for Brugge, making 24 appearances this season, with one goal and four assists. His performances, particularly on the left flank of defense, have caught the attention of both Premier League giants. Manchester City scouts were notably present during Club Brugge’s 2-0 win over Genk on December 15 to watch the player.

Arsenal could make a move for De Cuyper during the January transfer window. His ability to deliver precise crosses and set-piece deliveries makes him a potentially valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s side, especially given the Gunners’ dominance in dead-ball situations. However, Arsenal has faced defensive challenges due to injuries to key players such as Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kieran Tierney, leaving them six points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City is also in need of defensive reinforcements after a difficult run of form, with only one win from their last 11 matches. The club has also been affected by injuries to defenders like John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake. The addition of De Cuyper could provide much-needed depth to their defensive options.

As both teams consider their options, the Belgian left-back’s future looks set to be closely monitored during the upcoming transfer window.
