The mother of Luigi Mangione told police that it “might be something she could see him doing.”

Luigi Mangione’s mother, Kathleen Mangione, indicated that she was not surprised by her son’s alleged involvement in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. When questioned by police just days before his arrest, Kathleen acknowledged that Luigi was angry at the healthcare industry and suggested that she could see him taking extreme actions. This statement raised concerns, as it pointed to a possible understanding of her son’s mindset and frustrations, which might have included written or verbal expressions against the healthcare sector.

The FBI had contacted Kathleen after she reported Luigi missing last month, informing her that a suspect in the murder investigation resembled her son. This ultimately led to his capture in Pennsylvania, where he was spotted at a McDonald’s by customers who recognized him from the manhunt.

Luigi, 26, was charged with first-degree murder following his arrest, and the case continues to develop under the investigation of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
